Upping the ante.

Time is a luxury few of us can afford and it would seem today that due to my incomprehensible lack of understanding of how the date line works that our challenge just got a little bit tougher.

DaisyMy dog, Daisy boards a plane in Hong Kong next Friday morning which thanks to the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey nature of things means she arrives before she leaves and will be landing in SFO around 10pm PST on Thursday night.

Whilst I would be most upset to lose the UPS challenge, no one would have lost a limb and the biggest casualty would likely be a dented pride and a bit of interweb ridicule.  Now though every minute we are late my poor dog will be sitting on the tarmac at SFO adding to her already likely considerable distress.  Add the fact we can’t possibly leave before midday on Monday means we have lost a day from the original schedule.

We’ve already established that the run can be done in 32 hours 7 minutes but it’s a 330xi we have not a Space Shuttle.  However it does mean that visits to the world’s biggest ball of yarn or Carhenge might have to wait for the sequel.

So the ante has been upped.  The bus will now be going UPS 3 Day Select which means it might cheat and jump on an aeroplane or two so it will necessitate some through the night driving from us.

Now it seems it is man vs dog vs bus and the dog had better not bloody win!

I have no doubt that we can do this. I prefer night driving anyway.
